With operations in more than 20 countries across five continents, Meltric is able to serve customers in over 100 countries through sister Marechal Electric companies. This allows customers to find Meltric products wherever they are.

3. Certifications and Ratings

As UL/CSA-rated plugs, Meltric products are allowed to be used for the branch circuit and motor circuit disconnect switching. Providing more endurance over time, Meltric’s switch-rated plugs and receptacles are built to guarantee the safety and efficiency of the user.

Advantages of using Switch-Rated Plugs & Receptacles

Meltric’s switch-rated plugs and receptacles combine the functionality of a switch with the convenience of a plug and receptacle. As an approved line-of-sit disconnect they provide a cost-effective means of meeting code requirements without the need for expensive interlocks or axillary safety switches, they also ensure arc flash protection. The plug cannot be removed from the receptacle until after the contacts are de-energized. Once the plug is removed from the receptacle safety shutter prevents unintended access to live parts.

When a switch-rated plug is disconnected from the receptacle it provides visual verification of equipment de-energization.  It can then be locked out and tagged out as required. Since an electrically safe work condition is insured any qualified technician can safely make and break electrical connections under full load and they can do so in compliance with NFPA 70E and CSA Z462 standards without having to suit up. As stated on the device label Meltric’s switch-rated plugs and receptacles are UL and CSA listed as a motor circuit disconnect switch for applications up to 100 horsepower. They are also listed as branch circuit disconnect switch for applications up to 200 amps.

Designed to Simplify Your Job & Add Safety

Meltric’s exclusive DECONTACTOR technology ensures that the plugs and receptacles are safe to connect and disconnect even in overload conditions. They have successfully passed overload locked rotor tests at six times rated full load motor current for 50 operations. Electrical endurance test at rated current and voltage for 6000 operations and a short-circuit make and withstand test at 65,000 amps or more.

Meltric’s spring-loaded butt-style contact design maintains a consistent connection force even after thoughts of operations. The solid silver nickel contact material withstands arcs and resists wear and corrosion. It can be over 20 times more conductive than brass contacts this helps minimize operating temperature and prolongs the life of the device which is backed by a 5-year limited warranty on the contacts.

The receptacle interior features a spring-loaded ejection mechanism that ensures a quick break of the contacts and minimizes arcing, arcing that does occur is isolated in enclosed chambers.  Switch-rated plugs and receptacles perform well in wet corrosive environments because they achieved rating environmental protection up to type 4x as soon as the plug is latched to the receptacle. Advanced control scenarios are possible when optional auxiliary contacts are utilized to monitor key parameters, communicate alarm signals or de-energize equipment.
