Star Teck® ST90 series90-degree Teck fittings

In the fast-paced world of industrial automation and connectivity, the demand for robust, reliable, and efficient solutions is ever-growing. ABB’s ST90 series is an extension to the Star Teck Family which incorporates everything you need for a 90-degree cable termination. Designed to meet the rigorous demands of the industry, providing reliability, quality and safety.

Features and Benefits

The ST90 series is engineered to provide secure connections, ensuring optimal performance and safety in harsh environments. Here are some key features:

  • Superior sealing gasket for enhance ingress protection: Type 4, 4X and 6P
  • Locking striations prevent loosening of the fitting once installed while biting into enclosure to achieve better binding
  • Copper-free aluminum, hardened for higher strength
  • Power-Grip grounding ring
  • Dual bushing system for broader cable range

Faster and Simpler to Install

One-piece Design

  • The three components shown in photo 1 – Star Teck fitting, rigid elbow and sealing gasket – are an integral part of the ST90 fitting’s unique, one-piece design (photo 2)

Less space and cable required

  • Photo 3 shows the additional space and cable required to accommodate a minimum bend radius in a code-compliant installation. A cable terminated with an ST90 fitting has a bend radius that is 80% to 90% smaller than that of corresponding cables (photo 4).
  • Photo 5 shows a cable installation infringing on minimum bend radius as stipulated by the CEC (above).
  • Photo 6 demonstrates the same termination done with an ST90 series Teck fitting.
diagram showing ST90 fitting

With less separate components to purchase and stock, ST90 fittings simplify product selection and SKU management. The Canadian Electrical Code stipulates when installing armoured cables, it’s required that the bend radius of the inner edge of the cable is no less than 6 times the external diameter of the cable. For shielded cables, the bend radius needs to be at least 12 times the external diameter as per the regulations.

Do you want to ensure your home or cottage has power if there’s an outage, or do you want portable power for projects or outdoor trips?

E.B. Horsman’s Solution: Portable Backup Generator from BE Power Equipment.

In the winter, temperatures inside can drop fast, posing a major safety concern for everyone in your home—especially when temperatures dip below freezing. Are you prepared this season? If you live in an area prone to intense storms or frequent power outages, you may have considered investing in a portable backup generator. Although a portable backup generator is convenient, it can also be a significant investment. Long term, a portable generator will be able to protect your investment, keep you and your family comfortable, and even save you money should you experience a prolonged power outage.

What is a generator with a built-in Inverter?

An inverter generator electronically throttles the engine up and down to meet demand, instead of running full tilt all the time. The resulting improvement in efficiency means that you won’t have to fill up the gas tank as often. Inverter generators also produce lower emissions—and less noise.

What Is a Portable Backup Generator?

A portable generator gives you a way to sustain power in your home or small commercial business, even if the power is out at the grid level. Many portable generators are powered by an alternative fuel source, like propane or gasoline, and do not require a professional installation. The portable generator can plug directly into your electric panel, or you can plug individual appliances and electronics directly into the portable generator. Because portable generators expel burned propane or gasoline, they will need to remain at least 10 feet away from your house to prevent potential poisoning from carbon monoxide.

Can a Portable Generator Save Me Money?

Homeowners who invest in a portable generator save money in the long term. A portable generator can prevent damage to your home. Running a portable generator through the winter can prevent pipes from freezing and bursting, which can be extremely costly to repair. A power generator can also keep a sump pump operational, preventing expensive and damaging flooding. Even a small portable generator that keeps your refrigerator running can help save you money by preventing your food from spoiling.

For some homeowners, a portable backup generator is even able to reduce their yearly home insurance premium. Because a portable generator can significantly reduce the risk of extensive and costly damages to the home, many home insurance companies will offer incentives or lower rates for people who own a portable home generator.

Power outages are often the result of harsh weather, such as high winds, lightning strikes, or ice buildup that causes overhead power lines to break. Though utility crews work around the clock to restore service, in some instances it can be days before the electricity is back on. That’s why every household should have a portable generator on hand to run appliances, tools, or heaters during a power outage. It’s not just a matter of convenience, but also of safety and security.
